IWS-FR

Unique fire treatment unlike no other

IWS FR+ Fire mitigation during construction, is the market leading treatment used to attain compliance with HSE endorsed Structural Timber Association guidance on fire mitigation for timber frame (Purple).

The IWS-FR treatment is a water-based blend of synergistic Fire Retardant ingredients which was developed with only timber building fabric in mind. The treatment was designed for structural timbers and formulated to provide robust resistance to site construction fires. It’s an audited, factory produced, controlled treatment and does not contain halides (chlorides or bromides), metals, phosphates or volatile organic compounds.

Glenalmond Timber have tested timber treated with the IWS treatments and proven that the protection is consistently presented across all surfaces of the timber, even if the colour appears ‘patchy’. This can occur because colours bind to the timber very quickly and strongly, and can be filtered out of packs particularly if tightly packed. The naked formulation is clear and a tracer dye is added only for site recognition.

Features of IWS-FR include:

  • Designed for the treatment of timber frame construction timbers and formulated for specific fire scenarios for this end use

  • A highly concentrated liquid, requiring a single double-vacuum treatment only to give the desired FR properties

  • Does not contain halides (chlorides or bromides), metals, phosphates or volatile organic compounds

  • Neutral pH and non-corrosive to treatment plant components

  • Available in a water repellent form

  • Does not need to be kiln dried after treatment

  • Non-corrosive to metal fixing and fastenings

ULTRA joist Preservative

SUPER DRY, STAYS DRY; DIMENSIONALLY STABLE TIMBER

The ULTRA joist treatment process initially involves the careful pre-conditioning of our timbers to an average 12% – 14% moisture content over a period of 7 days to become “SUPER DRY“.

The timbers are then visually graded by trained personnel to ensure uniformity of straightness and appearance prior to formal machine grading and regularising to fine tolerances. The timbers are placed in our treatment vessels where a unique preservative formulation, incorporating a very effective water repellent, is applied using a proven double vacuum, low pressure treatment process.

The distinctive pale blue treated timbers not only have a high performance resistance to decay and insect attack, with a 60 year anticipated service life for internal building applications, but are also protected against water ingress.

This allows the ULTRA joist timbers to retain their strength and straightness both during and after the build process. It is a water based product containing ultimately biodegradable organic biocides and does not contain lindane or metal based biocides. Typical uses for ULTRA joist treated timber include timber frame rim joists, flooring joists and building timbers above damp proof course.

VACSOL AQUA PRESERVATIVE

VACSOL Aqua treated timber has been low pressure impregnated with VACSOL Aqua preservative, a waterborne product containing biodegradable fungicides.

VACSOL Aqua treated timber is usually specified for above DPC level interior construction timbers and external coated joinery applications where there is a low to medium risk of decay or insect attack. The colour of VACSOL Aqua treated timber is virtually unchanged, although a treatment colour indicator can be added if required.

In accordance with EN 335:2013, Use Class 3 can also be sub-classified as 3.1 and 3.2 respectively. The interpretation of these sub-classes may vary from country to country. VACSOL Aqua treated timbers can be produced to meet the requirements of Use Classes 1, 2 and 3 coated.

Use Classes 1, 2 & 3.1 (Coated) are ideal for interior timber frame components, roofing and building timbers and external coated joinery.

Features of VACSOL Aqua Preservative include:

  • Proven performance against fungal decay and insect attack

  • For use in internal and external building applications above dpc level where there is a low to medium risk of fungal decay or insect attack – e.g. timber frame components, external joinery, construction, roofing and flooring timbers. VACSOL Aqua treated exterior timbers must be subsequently protected with a maintained and appropriate surface coating

  • VACSOL Aqua treated timber is protected with VACSOL Aqua waterbased preservative, containing biodegradable fungicides.

  • The appearance of the timber is virtually unchanged. Some treatment companies add a colour dye (usually yellow) as a marker to help identify VACSOL Aqua treatment is present

TANALITH E

Tanalith E pressure treated timber has been high pressure impregnated with TANALITH preservative containing a built-in water repellent. Tanalith water-based preservative treatments extend the service life of your wood and help maintain its natural appearance. This provides extra protection against the effects of weathering for highly visible and decorative timbers.

Tanalith E pressure treated timber has an initial natural pale green colouration due to it being a water based wood preservative containing copper and proven organic biocides. When impregnated into the timber, the preservative components bond with the wood structure and cannot easily be removed.

In accordance with EN 335:2013, Use Class 3 can also be sub-classified as 3.1 and 3.2 respectively. The interpretation of these sub-classes may vary from country to country. Tanelith E pressure treated timbers can be produced for all Use Classes.

Use Classes 3.2 (Uncoated) & 4 are ideal for decking components, cladding, garden and playground timbers.

DRICON

Dricon is a Humidity Resistant type Fire Retardant product applied by a carefully controlled high pressure impregnation process followed by kiln drying. It has independent classification reports across a wide range of timber species and thicknesses.

Dricon treatment is the assured and durable choice for permanent interior timbers and panel product applications. Dricon is the only British Board of Agreement (BBA) approved Fire Retardant treatment for timber.

Dricon dramatically reduces the rate of flame spread and heat release to allow more time to escape a fire and limit fire damage. It significantly reduces smoke emission and can achieve the lowest smoke classification (s1) in Euroclass testing – the stringent requirements for railway rolling stock and the London Underground. Dricon substantially extends the period before ‘flashover’, and has proven fire performance in action; saving buildings and reconstruction costs.

Fully tested in accordance with the most up to date European Standards (Euroclasses) under the Construction Products Regulation and classified in accordance with EN 13501-1. Euroclass C/B fire performance can be achieved for a wide range of timber and plywood species.

Non-com Exterior

Non-Com Exterior is a Leach Resistant type fire retardant product applied by a carefully controlled high pressure impregnation process followed by kiln drying and heat curing. It has independent classification reports across a wide range of timber species and thicknesses, including some modified timbers.

Non-Com Exterior treatment is the assured and durable choice for permanent exterior construction timbers, negating the need for a protective decorative coating. Non-Com Exterior treated timbers can be used in line with National House Building Council (NHBC) standards for exterior claddings.

When subjected to fire, the FR ingredients in Non-Com Exterior treated timber react with the combustible gases and tars normally generated by untreated wood, converting them to carbon char, carbon dioxide and water. The insulating layer of char formed retards the process of combustion. Non-Com Exterior dramatically reduces flame spread and heat release to allow more time to escape a fire and limit fire damage. The low smoke generation substantially extends the period before ‘flashover’, and has proven fire performance in action, saving building and reconstruction costs.
