What is Larch Cladding?
What is Larch Cladding?
European Larch is known for its obstinacy and natural durability, making it ideal for exposed areas and places prone to rugged surroundings. It’s our most affordable cladding option and is sourced from woodland areas in Europe.
Our larch cladding is Kiln Dried (K/D), sustainable (Full Chain of Custody), durability class 3, and cost-effective. The frequent knots give it a rustic charm, perfect for traditional aesthetics, especially in ‘board on board’, featheredge and rainscreen arrangements, which we can supply to order.
European Larch differs from Siberian larch only in appearance, so specify which you need. Siberian larch, though durable with a tighter grain and gold yellow colour, is less readily available due to the on-going war between Russia and Ukraine.
We generally offer featheredge (rebated), Rainscreen and Square boards but we can also machine various other profiles – see list below. Our larch cladding is available in Grade A/B for a cleaner look, dark and live knots present, similar to Siberian larch grading.
Our factory can texture, apply factory coatings. We recommend using stainless steel face fixings for all installations. Contact our experts for more information. We also supply Douglas Fir, Prime Grade Oak, Vulcan Thermally Modified Pine, Canadian Cedar and Siberian Larch for exterior wood cladding.

Appearance
Rustic creamy colour with a strong grain pattern. Depending on the grade (ie A/B), the boards may include some, or many, dark black knots. We grade all our timber with the CE mark
Movement
A ‘lively’ species, as with all larch, it is prone to distort. Throughout the year, a 145mm wide profile can vary +/- 5mm. Therefore we advise against a TG&V profile, why not have a look at our WB12 profile below

Durability
Naturally durable timber species because of tannins in the wood which creates a high resistance to decay and rot and its high density

The most popular profile is the WB12 as it allows for a hidden fixing. its an all round stable profile compared to the traditional TG&V style

Grades
We offer European Larch the highest grades in the industry, Grade A and Grade B (or ‘Unsorted’). Grade A allows for occasional small knots however many boards will be clear of defects. Grade B allows for frequent and larger knots.

European Larch is available in T&G profiles to open jointed rainscreen and square edge (commonly used for board on board style). Other than profiles offered below we can also machine bespoke profiles if you have a drawing /sketch handy; note this will be dependent on quantity. Maximum sections available 150mm (Off-Saw) and 4m lengths

Coating Options
All timber will naturally weather to a silver/grey after consistent exposure to the suns UV rays. Don’t like the weathered look? we can offer a range of factory applied coatings from different brands (Remmers, Teknos, OMSO to name a few) or supply enough Litres of your chosen coating to apply on-site. Love the weather look and want don’t want the wait? Sioo:X wood protection can be factory applied to accelerate the weathering process but also offering a uniform finish (not patchy)

Yes, all timber will weather after long periods of exposure to the suns UV Rays. Some species of timber will weather quicker than others. We can offer a range of protective coatings wich which will give the most protection against the sun. Ask us for more information and costs
Normally the lead times if you aren’t receiving factory coated cladding is around 10-14 days from payment confirmation. If your cladding is being sent to have treatment factory applied via an external coater this could take longer (such as Sioo:x which has to be applied by a specialist)
The 2 popular profiles we are constantly machining are the WB12 (vertically fitted) and WB10 (both vertical and horizontally fitted) because they offer a secret fixing. The WB12 can also be machined with a centre and offset groove which gives a mixed width illusion
